This organ was originally built by Gabriel Kney & Co. for a large music room in the residence of the late London, Ontario art patron Gordon Jeffery. Following the destruction by fire of the previous Holy Family Church, together with its Brunzema organ, the Jeffery organ was acquired by the Oratory. Gober Organs, Inc., dismantled the organ and placed it in storage until the new building was completed. |

The rückpositiv case remains unchanged. Gober Organs designed and built an entirely new Great façade case and pipes whose design echoes the rückpositiv. Virtually every rank of pipes was increased in scale, by one to eight semitones. They increased fractional length reed resonators to full length and raised the all-important mouth height, or ‘cut-up’, of virtually every flue pipe. This radically changed the organ’s originally neo-baroque character, in keeping with observations, made by Gober Organs, on regular field trips of European organs. Hal Gober has developed and perfected these techniques in voicing seventy-five organs over twenty years. The result is a warm and intensely colourful tone devoid of the exaggerated speech and harsh sounds often associated with tracker organs. It is in harmony with the elegant appearance of the façade and worthy of the rich acoustics of the new church. |
